Students at Harriet Gifford enjoy a variety of enrichment opportunities, including art, technology, reading, sports, yoga, student leadership, and cultural clubs. Families also benefit from before- and after-school care, family engagement events, health services, and strong community partnerships that support student success.

Harriet Gifford Elementary was opened in 1949. The school is named after Elgin’s first school teacher, Miss Harriet Gifford, who established the first school in Elgin in 1836. The school has evolved through the years with additions and modernization projects. A new gym and main office, along with additional office space was added in 1997.
